Diane Girard has been providing consulting and training services in ethics to organizations from the public, professional and private sectors since 1997. She is known for the multidisciplinary, tailored and strategic nature of her approach to ethics and her capacity to engage different levels of the organization. She has also been a lecturer in business ethics at McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management since 2000.
Ms. Girard holds a Ph.D. in Management, focused on middle managers’ ethical decision making, a Masters Degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.), a Masters Degree in Law (L.L.M.) and a Post-Graduate Degree in Applied Ethics. She is a member in good standing of the Ordre des administrateurs agréés du Québec, the Ethics Practitioners Association of Canada and the Quebec Organizational Ethics Network (RÉOQ). She was also a member of the Quebec Bar from 1983 to 2012.
Ms. Girard is the founder (2011) and past president of the Quebec Organizational Ethics Network (RÉOQ), and served on the Board of the Ethics Practitioners Association of Canada for several years. She was also the regional coordinator for the province of Quebec, for the Ethics Practitioners Association of Canada, from 1998 to 2011. She has also contributed to the revision of the code of conduct of professional administrators (Ordre des administrateurs agrees du Québec) and the organization of some of their annual professional development conferences, namely on the topics of ethics and sustainability.
Ms. Girard has published articles in academic journals on organizational ethics, business ethics, public sector ethics, organizational culture and its influence on ethics, and conflicts of values and suffering at work. She has also published book chapters on different topics related to organizational ethics and ethical decision- making in the following : L’éthique au travail (Éditions Liber, 2009), L’intervention en éthique organisationnelle : théorie et pratique, (Éditions Liber, 2007), Business Ethics: Concepts, Cases, and Canadian Perspectives (Éditions Edmond Montgomery, 2012), Les loyautés multiples : Mal-être au travail et enjeux éthiques (Éditions Nota Bene, 2015). She was also the head researcher and author of the study Organizational Ethics in Québec : A Study of Practices and Practitioners in the Private, Public and Health Sectors, published in 2010.
She has recently received the following distinctions in recognition of her work for the development of ethics in organizations: the Prix GA Legault, by the Institute of Applied Ethics of Laval University (2014) and an award by the Réseau des femmes d’affaires du Québec (2012) for her volunteer work in ethics. The Ordre des administrateurs agréés du Québec (2015) has also recognized her contributions with the award of a « Recognition » distinction in February 2015.
