June 18 – AGM & Workshop on Accountability and Ethical Risk

When: Workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:15 (doors open at 8:30 for networking and refreshments). AGM 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Where: Room 120, 233 Main St., Ottawa (Saint-Paul University)
Cost: $40 for current (2015) members; $80 for all other participants.

Ethics workshop participants have asked for more on accountability and ethical risk. This suggests that work in Values and Ethics is reaching a new level. In addition to code- writing, awareness building and training ‘before the fact’ and mediation and resolution services ‘after the fact’, ethics offices can take a predictive and pre-emptive approach. This workshop explores principles and tools for managing ethical risk in order to reduce the likelihood of problems. In addition, the frameworks developed make it easier to meet accountability requirements. Arthur Stewart, retired senior official in the Office of the Comptroller General, will outline broad principles and explain the specific case contribution of forensic audit and risk assessment. Ann Fraser, Executive Director of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s Values, Integrity and Conflict Resolution Directorate, will show how CFIA conducts its ethical risk profiles focused on the operational realities of each of the Agency’s branches. Michael Bassett, Associate Director of Governance, Compliance and Risk at the Conference Board of Canada, will provide insights from how this is handled in the private sector, where oversight of integrity, accountability and risk is vested in the board of directors of the company or not-for-profit organization.

When: Thursday, June 18, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (workshop)

The doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for seat selection, networking and refreshments.

The workshop will be followed by EPAC’s Annual General Meeting from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; all are welcome.

Where:  Saint-Paul University, 233 Main Street, Room 120, Ottawa
